Americans have special rights. Rights are the freedoms people have. Let’s look at some of the rights guaranteed by the First Amendment of the Constitution.

One important right we have is Freedom of Religion. Americans can have any faith they choose. Or, they can choose no religion.

Have you heard of Freedom of Speech? Americans can speak their minds. They can say what they believe. They can’t use their words to harm others, or they might get in trouble. Freedom of speech is more than just words. You can wear clothes or hold signs to show how you feel. These students wore peace armbands at school. They were saying that they want peace.

Americans also have the right to assemble [gather together]. When people assemble, they bring attention to themselves. When Americans want to make their ideas heard, they assemble. This is allowed as long as they are peaceful.
