What’s an Oscar?

People all around the world like movies. People watch movies in the theater. They also watch movies at home.

Each year, people who work in the movies are given prizes for the work they’ve done. These prizes are called Academy Awards. Winners are given a gold statue. It’s called an Oscar.

The Academy Awards are held in February or March. This year the awards will be on February 24. Millions of people all around the world watch the show on television.

People win for different movie jobs. Some people win for acting. Some people win for writing or directing. Others win for making costumes or writing music for movies. All the people who get awards have helped to make great movies.
