Joshua Tree National Park is in California. Much of the park is desert. It is beautiful.

The park is named for the Joshua trees that grow there. Joshua trees are not really trees. They are spiky plants. But they still give food and shelter to animals.

Minerva Hoyt lived in California long ago. She loved the desert. She wanted to protect it by making a national park. Her idea worked! The park opened in 1936. Many people still enjoy it today.
