September 15^th to October 15^th is Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic-Americans are people whose ancestors came from Spanish speaking countries. Let’s celebrate Hispanic-Americans!

Sylvia Mendez was 8 years old in 1943. She moved to California. Her family was from Mexico. She could not go to the same school as white children. Her family argued in court. They won. Now, Sylvia Mendez helps others. She wants everyone to have a good education.

Roberto Clemente played baseball. He came from the island of Puerto Rico. He was the first Hispanic player in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. He worked to help other people.

Ellen Ochoa is a Mexican-American scientist and astronaut.
She invented devices that help NASA [National Aeronautics and Space Administration].
The devices help look at images from outer space. In 1993, she became the first
Hispanic woman to go to outer space.
