Using Measurement Tools

How do bakers keep their bread the same size? Bakers weigh the dough! The bread will be the same size if it weighs the same.

Balance scales measure weight. Weight is how heavy something is. Balance scales have two sides. You put objects on each side. The lighter object will be higher. The heavier object will be lower. Some objects weigh the same. Then both sides of the scale are the same height.

Bakers know how heavy the dough needs to be. They put a weight on one side of the scale. They put the dough on the other side. They look at the two sides. They might add more dough. They might take some away. When both sides are the same height, they are ready to bake!
