A Bridge that Tells Time

Look at this bridge! This bridge helps people cross a river. It also keeps the living things in the river safe. Salmon live in the river. The salmon need a safe place to swim and lay eggs. The Sundial Bridge is a suspension bridge. Suspension means to be supported from above. No parts of the bridge touch the river. This keeps the salmon safe!

This bridge also works as a sundial! Sundials use light from the Sun to tell time. The bridge will make a shadow. When the Sun moves, the shadow will move. The shadow will change during the day. This tells us what time it is!

Long ago, sundials were used to tell time. Now we use clocks. Sundials show the movement of a shadow. Clocks tell time in a different way. Clocks show the movement of the minute and second hands.

What Do You Think? What are some other tools you can use to tell time?
