What is the Bill of Rights? Why is it important?

December 15th is Bill of Rights Day. The Bill of Rights is a list of freedoms. Americans have many freedoms. The government cannot take them away.

The Bill of Rights protects freedom of the press. “The press” is “the news.” People in the United States have the right to report the news. The government does not control what the news says.

say their ideas or opinions. The government will not stop them or punish them.
The Bill of Rights protects other freedoms, too.
