How Do Communities Prepare for Snow Storms?

Many of us like snow. We like to go sledding and play in the snow. But snow storms can be dangerous. Cars slide on the roads. Ice can make power lines go down. How do communities get ready for snow storms?

This big pile is road salt. It’s not like salt we put on food. Cities put salt on roads before snow falls. Salt keeps ice from forming. Salt can melt new ice, too.

Many communities have warming centers. People come inside during a
storm or cold weather. They can stay warm and safe. Stores get ready for bad
storms, too. They put blankets and other important things on shelves.
