Animals in Winter

How do animals survive in the winter? It is hard for some animals to find food. The temperature can be too cold for other animals. Animals do different things to survive in the winter.

Some animals cannot survive in cold weather. Butterflies migrate. They travel to warmer areas. They find food there. They huddle together to stay safe. They also help keep each other warm. As winter ends, the butterflies fly north to lay eggs.

This groundhog hibernates. It sleeps all winter. It lives
underground in a burrow. Groundhogs eat as much food as they can when the
weather is warm. This helps them survive in the winter. The groundhog peeks out
of its winter home as it gets warmer.
