What Is a Laser?

A laser is a thin beam of light. People use lasers all the time. You may have a laser at home. A DVD player uses a laser to read a DVD. A cashier uses a laser to read bar codes.

Some lasers can cut through steel. Companies that make parts out of metal use lasers. The laser has so much energy it can melt the metal.

Doctors use lasers to help people. Lasers can be used to fix people’s eyes. Laser eye surgery helps people to see better without having to wear glasses.

What do you think? How else do people use lasers?
