On July 1, we say thank you to people who bring us our mail.

Postal workers deliver mail and packages. Almost half a million people deliver mail in the United States. Most walk between four to eight miles a day. They work in all kinds of weather.

This stamp was made in 1954. You must buy a stamp to send mail. Great Britain had the first stamps in 1840. The first stamps in the United States were in 1847. One stamp had a picture of George Washington. It cost ten cents.
