This year, we will have the first female vice president of the United States! What other women leaders made history?

The governor is the leader of a state. Nellie Tayloe Ross was the first woman in the United States elected governor. Her husband was governor of Wyoming. He died. Ross became governor in his place. In 1924, she was elected for the job.

Jeannette Rankin was the first woman to be elected to the United States Congress. She was from Montana. She was elected to Congress in 1916.

Whitmer ran for governor of Michigan in 2018. She wanted to fix roads and clean
up the water. People know her for another reason. Michigan had many cases of COVID-19.
She told a reporter, “I want people to know what’s happening here so I can get
some help.”
