World of Volcanoes

This is Mount Fuji in Japan. It is not just a mountain. It is a volcano! A volcano is an opening in the earth. When a volcano erupts, ash and hot lava [melted rock] shoot out of it. A volcano is active if it has erupted in the past 10,000 years. Mount Fuji erupted over 300 years ago. It is an active volcano.
