Pumpkin Time

Look outside. Is it fall where you live? It is time to pick pumpkins! Farmers grow a lot of pumpkins every year. People carve pumpkins. People paint pumpkins. People eat pumpkin pie.

It takes time for pumpkins to grow. Pumpkins need about 100 days of warm weather. Farmers plant pumpkin seeds in July. The seeds sprout and grow into vines. Bees pollinate the flowers. Then the pumpkins begin to grow. The pumpkins are ready to pick in October.

Giant pumpkins need a lot longer to grow. They need about 150 days of warm weather. The largest giant pumpkins weigh more than 2,000 pounds.
