Jane Addams was born in Illinois. She went to London when she was an adult. She saw how people there helped poor people.

December 10 is Jane Addams Day. Why was Jane Addams so special? She spent her whole life helping other people.

Jane Addams and her friend rented a big house. They invited immigrants to live there. The house was called Hull House. It had a day care center. It had a gym. People there helped people find jobs. Hull House had classes. They even had a theater!

helped with other things, too. She helped pass laws so that children could not
work. She wanted to keep all workers safe. She also wanted women to vote.

was the first woman to win a special award called the Nobel Peace Prize.
