Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday is in January. We celebrate this leader. He fought against racism.

Dr. King was born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1929. He lived here when he was young. Segregation was the law then. That means that African Americans and White people were separated. They had separate schools. They had to sit in different places on buses. Dr. King wanted things to change.

Dr. King gave
many speeches. In one famous speech, he said “I have a dream.” Many people
heard the speech. They listened to a message about equality. They wanted to
make a difference, too.
