Women’s History Month

March is Women’s History Month. We celebrate things women have done throughout history. Do you know about these women?

Celia Cruz was Cuban American. She was a singer. Some called her “the queen of salsa.” Cruz appeared in many movies. She sang in an opera at Carnegie Hall. She won many awards for her singing.

Rachel Carson
was born in 1907. She grew up on a large farm. She learned about nature and
animals.

Later, she
wrote books. One famous book was Silent Spring. The book was about
chemicals that killed birds. She wanted people to research those chemicals.

Misty
Copeland joined a dance team when she was in middle school. Her coach saw she
was talented. He told her to go to ballet school.

When Copeland
was 15, she started winning prizes for her dancing. Later, she joined the
American Ballet Theater. In 2015, she became their first Black female principal
dancer. That means she was the best dancer.

What Do You Think? Tell about a woman from history you know about. Why do you think Women’s History Month is important?
