Spring Means the End of Hibernation!

Some animals take long naps. Hibernation is when animals sleep for a long time during winter. Groundhogs hibernate. They dig deep burrows under the ground. They stay safe and warm in their burrows.

Another animal that hibernates is the bear. Bears hibernate in caves. Bears use very little energy when they hibernate. They breathe slowly. Their hearts pump slowly. But, if they hear a noise, they will wake up.

The weather is warm in the spring. Bears wake up. They come out of their caves. They have not eaten in five months! They go looking for food. Food helps bears build back their energy.

What Do You Think? How do you think bears feel when they wake up from hibernation? Why?
