What are Flamingos?

Flamingos are tall birds. They have long skinny legs. Flamingos can stand on one leg for a long time. Young flamingos are white. Their feathers turn pink as they get older. Their pink color comes from the food they eat. Can you guess what they eat a lot of? Shrimp!

Flamingos live in warm areas near water. They have curved beaks and long necks. Flamingos eat by turning their heads upside down. They suck up water and shrimp with their large beaks.

Flamingos are social birds. They live in large groups called colonies. Staying together helps keep them safe.
