Celebrating Hispanic Culture and Art

Many Americans come from different places around the world. People speak Spanish in some of these places, such as Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico. Let’s look at how we celebrate some of these cultures.

These are Puerto Rican flags. This is part of a Puerto Rican Day Parade in Florida. Puerto Rico is an island. It was once a colony of Spain. Now, it is part of the United States. Many Puerto Ricans live all over the United States.

This painting covers a whole wall in Chicago. It is a mural. Murals are large paintings. They tell stories. Mexican artists made murals popular. This mural shows people who live in a neighborhood called Pilsen. Many people who came from Spanish-speaking countries live in Pilsen. Are there murals in your neighborhood?
