Inuit build igloos where there is a lot of snow. First, they dig a large hole. The hole is the bottom of the igloo. Then they squeeze snow together. This forms blocks of ice. The blocks are stacked on one another. Igloos have a small hole on the top of the dome. Air moves in and out of the hole. This keeps the air inside safe to breathe.

Igloo walls are strong. The thick blocks of ice and snow keep out the cold. They also trap heat inside. Igloos keep Inuit safe and warm.

What Do You Think? Would you like to build an igloo? Try to make the dome shaped house with clay and sugar cubes. The clay will help to hold the sugar cubes together.
