Let’s Compare Objects

Objects are compared in different ways. Quantity is a way to compare things. Quantity is the amount of something. There are more cherries. There are less apples.

Proportion is the size or number of something compared to another object. The paper clips are smaller. The crayon is larger. Three paper clips are the same length as one crayon.

Scale measures the size of an object compared to another object. The elephant is bigger than the dog. The dog is smaller than the elephant. Scientists use quantity, scale, and proportion. They build models of objects or things that are too small or too big to see.

What Do You Think? Can you think of anything that is too small to measure? How can you compare it to something big?
