The first Asian immigrants came to the United States from China. They came in the 1700s. Immigrants are people who move from one country to another. Later, more immigrants came from China and Japan. Many came through Angel Island. Angel Island is in San Francisco. The picture shows Japanese children on Angel Island in 1920.

Many Asian Americans started communities. The picture shows people in the Chinatown community in Chicago. They are marching in a Chinese New Year parade.

The Hmong are from China and Southeast Asia. Many fled from war and hard times. Some came to the United States. 

Hmong Americans celebrate Hmong New Year. The people in the picture celebrate the holiday. They are in Long Beach, California. They wear traditional clothing. They celebrate with traditional foods, dance, and music.
