Just Found: An ‘Extinct’ Clam That is Alive

Scientists found something interesting. They found Cymatioa cookae. It is a special clam. They thought it was extinct! Extinct means no longer living. The scientists were surprised to find the clams.

The clams were found in California. They were found on the beach where scientists look for marine life. They study what they find. Clams have hard shells. The shells keep them safe. Clam shells have two halves. The two halves are connected by a hinge.

These clams are small. They are hard to find. Scientists are doing research. They want to know where the clam has been. Was it always here? Did it come back?
