Splashes

Summer is a great time to play in the water.  There are different ways to make splashes. This child is making a splash. They are kicking the surface of the water.

Do you know how to make a big splash? A cannonball makes a big splash. You make a cannonball by jumping as high as you can. Make your body into a ball. When your body lands in the pool, it makes a hole. The more water your body moves, the bigger the splash!

Divers jump high. They try not to make big splashes.  They dive into the water as straight as possible. A diver’s body creates a smaller splash because it moves less water.

What Can You Do? Why do some things make different size splashes? Ask an adult to help you find different size objects that can get wet. Drop one at a time into a bucket of water. See what kind of splash each one makes. Change the height of where you drop it. What happens?
