Celebrate Mushroom Month

September is national mushroom month. Mushrooms are important. What are mushrooms? Mushrooms are a type of fungus. They are not a plant or an animal.

Mushrooms grow in forests. Mushrooms might grow in your backyard! Mushrooms break down dead plants. Mushrooms clean up forests. Mushrooms help the soil.

We can eat some mushrooms. But be careful! Some mushrooms can make you sick. Do not pick wild mushrooms. Always ask an adult first.
So, celebrate mushrooms this month! Try different mushroom foods. Take a hike. Find different mushrooms.
