The Last Ice Age

About 20,000 years ago, ice covered much of Earth. Temperatures were about 4° C colder (11° F). The sea level was lower. There were many glaciers [large, moving pieces of ice]. This was the peak of the last ice age.

Many large animals roamed the Earth. There were mammoths. There were saber-toothed cats. There were mastodons. These animals are now extinct [died out].

There were other animals too. There were bears. There were wolves. There were humans.
