Ruby Bridges was six years old. She had a hard task. She was one of the first Black children chosen to go to a school with only White children. Some people did not want Bridges to go to this school. They yelled and threw things. The President sent guards to protect her. They walked to school with her.
In school, Bridges went to a classroom with no other students. She had her own teacher. Ruby Bridges was brave. She went to school every day. Over time, people changed. Children went to school together peacefully.
