Celebrating World Braille Day

January 4th is World Braille Day! The first World Braille Day took place in 2019. Let’s find out more!

Braille is a system of dots. Braille helps blind people read. You use your fingers to read Braille. Your fingers feel the dots. Some dots are letters of the alphabet. Many people around the world are blind. Many other people are visually impaired. That means they have a hard time seeing.

January 4th is Louis Braille’s birthday. Louis Braille was a French teacher. He was born in 1809. He was blinded in an accident when he was three. He made a system that helped blind people read. The system became known as Braille.

Today, people still use Braille to read and learn. Many books are printed in Braille. You can find Braille everywhere! Buttons on elevators and traffic signals have Braille. Some products in stores also have Braille. Braille makes life easier for blind people!
