January 20 is MLK Day. On this day we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. King wanted all people to have the same rights. He wanted laws to be fair.

King loved to read. He owned many books. He read stories and poems. He read books about ideas. He read books written long ago. He read books written during his life. The books he read shaped his own ideas.

This is Mahatma Gandhi. He lived in a country called India. Gandhi believed people should not follow unfair rules. He also believed people should stay peaceful no matter what. He wrote about his ideas. King read Gandhi’s writing. King used Gandhi’s ideas to fight for equal rights here.

This is Abraham Lincoln. He was president of the United States. He gave an important speech. His speech imagined a country where everyone was free. He wanted everyone to have the same rights. King read Lincoln’s speech. King used Lincoln’s words and ideas when he wrote an important speech of his own.
