Wildfires Rage in Los Angeles
Wildfires burned through Los Angeles, California, over the past month. A wildfire is a fire that starts in a forest. The fires spread to the city. Let’s find out more.

Fires tore through city neighborhoods. Altadena and Pacific Palisades were the hardest hit. City leaders sent warnings to people about the fires. People fled their neighborhoods. They took any belongings they could carry. Many homes and businesses were lost.

The fires began early last month. Dry weather and strong winds made the fires worse. At first, firefighters could not use helicopters to put out the fires. The winds were too strong. The helicopters later dropped water to stop the fires. But fire spread to other parts of the city.

Firefighters worked for weeks to put out the fires. They slowed or stopped the spread of many fires. But more fires started in other parts of California. Firefighters are trying to stop those fires, too. Rain has helped put out some of the fires.
