Remembering Pope Francis

The pope is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Francis was a pope. He died at 88 years old. He was born in Argentina. He liked playing sports as a kid. He became a priest. He helped many people. He wanted peace.

Pope Francis lived in Vatican City. The largest Christian church in the world is there. Francis lived near the church. He walked or rode the bus. He did not spend much money. He wore simple clothes.

Pope Francis met other world leaders. He came to the United States in 2015. He met President Barack Obama. He wanted people to care for the Earth. He told people to be kind.

UPDATE: A new pope was elected on May 8, 2025. His name is Robert Prevost. He is the first pope from the United States! Prevost chose a new name as pope. He is now called Leo XIV. He is the fourteenth pope with the name Leo. Pope Leo XIV wants to help people just like Pope Francis did. Pope Leo will also live in Vatican City (pictured here).
