Welcome, Pope Leo! 

The pope is the leader of the Roman Catholic Church. A new pope was chosen in May. Cardinal Robert Prevost is the new pope. Each pope chooses a new name. He is Pope Leo XIV.

Other leaders of the Roman Catholic Church, called cardinals, choose the pope. They meet in the Sistine Chapel. It is a very special place. The cardinals vote to choose the pope. It can take a few days.

Pope Leo was born in Chicago, Illinois. He is 69 years old. He is the first pope from the United States. He also spent many years in Peru. He speaks Spanish and English. He can also speak other languages!
