Flash Floods Hit Central Texas

Flash floods hit parts of Central Texas on July 4 (sudden flooding after heavy rain). The floods happened after a lot of rain. The rain caused a river to rise 26 feet. The floods came very quickly. It was in the middle of the night. Most people were sleeping.

Rescue teams responded quickly. They rescued a lot of people. They used helicopters and boats. People were pulled from the water. Other people were rescued from trees. Drones (small aircraft controlled from the ground) with cameras helped find people. Neighbors lent a hand. Families helped each other. Rescue workers continue to search for missing people.

During storms, warning systems alert people of danger. Sirens can tell people about a coming storm. People also get alerts on their phones. Warning systems save lives. The National Weather Service sent a warning about the floods. But many people did not receive the alert. Leaders in Texas want to improve warning systems.
