What Are Tariffs? 

Have you heard of tariffs? A tariff is money added to goods that come from other countries. Our government gets tariff money when some goods come here. Americans buy a lot of goods from other countries!

Tariffs make things more expensive. But they can be a good thing. The money can pay for government services. Tariffs also can help Americans. Some people might buy more American goods.  

Some goods are hard to make in the United States. These goods include bananas and coffee. Other goods are cheaper to make in other countries. These goods include sneakers and cell phones.

President Trump asked for tariffs on many countries. Things like board games, televisions, and chocolate will cost more. Americans get chocolate from other countries.   

Even things made in America could cost more. Cars made here still have parts made in other countries. The price of these car parts might go up.
