Remembering Jane Goodall

What do you know about chimpanzees (apes closely related to humans)? Jane Goodall was a scientist who learned a lot about them.

Goodall got very close to some chimpanzees. She gave them food. She also gave them names!

Goodall called one chimpanzee David Greybeard. She saw him build a tool with twigs. He used the tool to get food. People did not know animals could do this!

Jane Goodall flew in a plane over Tanzania. She saw that a lot of the forest there had been destroyed. This was where chimpanzees lived.

Goodall did a lot of work to protect animals and their homes. She helped other people do this as well.

Jane Goodall would speak to people about protecting animals. Goodall wrote many books. She also won many awards.

Jane Goodall died on October 1, 2025. She was 91 years old. She once said, “every single one of us makes a difference every day—it is up to us as to the kind of difference we make.”

What Do You Think? What part of Jane Goodall’s work would you like to find out more about?
