The Winter Olympic Games

Have you ever ice skated? When you ice skate, you wear special boots. They help you move on the ice. Ice skating is part of the Winter Olympic Games. The Winter Olympics is a big sports competition. Some sports take place on snow. Some sports take place on ice. They are all winter sports.

The first Winter Olympic Games were in 1924. That is more than 100 years ago. It was in Chamonix, France. There was ice skating then, too!

This Winter Olympic Games has a brand new sport. It is called ski mountaineering. This sport combines skiing and mountain climbing! Skiing is where people wear long boards on their feet. They help them to move across snow. For ski mountaineering, people climb up a mountain. Then they ski back down as fast as they can.
