Earth Day

Earth Day is April 22, 2026. It is a special day. People celebrate the Earth. People think about ways to protect it.

Senator Gaylord Nelson started Earth Day. In 1969, an oil spill happened. It killed thousands of animals. Senator Nelson wanted to do something. In 1970, he created Earth Day. In 1990, Earth Day became an event all over the world.

Each Earth Day has a theme. This year it is “Our Power, Our Planet.” This means Earth is everybody’s planet. Everybody has the power to help it. Special Earth Day events will take place in more than 192 countries. You can visit the Earth Day website. Find out about events in your area.
What Can You Do? There are many things you can do for Earth Day. Recycle. Don’t use plastic goods. Pick up trash at a park. Volunteer for organizations that help the environment.
