State Fairs!

Carnival rides! Delicious food! Contests! What do all these things have in common? You can find them all at a state fair.
The first state fair took place in 1841. It was the New York State Fair. Now, almost every state has a state fair.

State fairs have competitions to promote livestock and farming. Farmers win awards for the best animals and vegetables. Several states even have pig races!

This llama is dressed up for a contest. There are many funny contests at state fairs. State fairs are known for unusual attractions. Some states have sculptures made from butter. The State Fair of Texas features life-size statues of dinosaurs.
