Why Do We Vote in November?

Election Day in the United States is the first Tuesday of November. The first year people voted in November was 1845. Congress passed a law.

In some states, Election Day is a holiday. In other states, people can take time off from their jobs to vote. Many states let people vote early. They can vote by mail.

No matter how people vote, we think about November as the Election Day.
