Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month

May is Asian-Pacific Heritage Month. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have done great things. Let’s celebrate!

Kalpana Chawla was an astronaut and an engineer. She was the first Indian woman to be in space. She flew on the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1997. She was a robotic specialist. She was on another flight in 2003. That shuttle crashed. Chawla and the other crew members died.

What Do You Think? What other people do you know of who are Asian American or from the Pacific Islands? What special things did they do?
