The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World) is a colossal copper neoclassical sculpture, designed by the French sculptor, Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, and was built by Gustave Eiffel. Dedicated on October 28, 1886, it was a gift to the United States from the people of France. The pedestal was designed by the American Architect, Richard Morris Hunt in 1881
