Bessie Coleman wanted to be a pilot. Schools in the United States would not teach a Black woman to fly a plane. Ms. Coleman learned to write and speak French. She went to school in France. She learned how to fly a plane. She could do tricks with the plane. Bessie Coleman was the first Black and Native American woman pilot.
