
Also, day and night are almost equal in length. This happens everywhere on Earth.
Earth’s axis (an imaginary line through the middle of Earth from top to bottom) is usually tilted (not straight up and down) toward or away from the Sun. In the summer, the north half of Earth is tilted toward the Sun. Days are longer than nights. In the winter, the north half of Earth is tilted away from the Sun. Days are shorter than nights.
On the first day of spring, it is not tilted either way.
